McCanna Anthony 'Mac' Sinise and Gary Sinise.

LOS ANGELES, Feb 28, (Agencies): McCanna Anthony "Mac" Sinise, the son of Gary Sinise, has passed away at the age of 33. Gary, 68, conveyed the somber news through a statement on Tuesday, shared on both the Gary Sinise Foundation's website and his Instagram page. According to Gary, Mac succumbed to cancer on January 5.

In the statement, Gary detailed Mac's battle with Chordoma, a rare spinal cancer diagnosed on August 8, 2018, affecting approximately 300 people in the US annually. Gary shared that Mac's diagnosis occurred shortly after his wife, Moira Harris, faced a stage three breast cancer diagnosis. While Moira successfully entered remission and remained cancer-free, Mac's condition progressively worsened, leading to increasing disability.

Joining the Gary Sinise Foundation a few months before his diagnosis, Mac served as an assistant manager of education and outreach. Beyond his philanthropic work, Mac showcased his musical talent as an outstanding drummer, performing alongside his father's band, Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band.

Mac, a graduate of the University of Southern California with a focus on songwriting and composition in addition to drumming, faced numerous challenges. He underwent five spine surgeries between 2018 and 2020, resulting in paralysis from the chest down due to the disease's impact on his body. Despite these physical limitations, Mac, alongside collaborators, managed to create an album titled "Resurrection & Revival." Tragically, Gary noted that Mac passed away the same week the album went to press.
