G7 Calls for Immediate Halt to Attacks on Civilians in Iran War, Urges Hormuz Maritime Security

PARIS (AP), Mar 27: The foreign ministers of the G7 nations have called for an immediate halt to attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure in the ongoing Iran war, according to a joint statement issued during their meeting in France.

Meeting on the second day of talks in the French host country, the ministers stressed the need to minimize the conflict’s impact on regional partners, civilian populations, and critical infrastructure. They also highlighted concerns over disruptions to global supply chains, including energy, fertilizer, and commercial routes, warning of wider economic repercussions.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said the G7 adopted a declaration urging an immediate end to strikes targeting civilians and diplomatic facilities, adding that “nothing justifies deliberately targeting civilians during armed conflicts.”

The statement also reaffirmed the importance of restoring free and safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, a key flashpoint in the conflict. Barrot noted discussions on ensuring maritime security once U.S. military objectives are achieved, with participants emphasizing freedom of navigation in international waters.

The G7 comprises the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan, along with the European Union.
