KUWAIT CITY, Nov 27: Indian Dentists’ Alliance in Kuwait (IDAK) conducted the IDAK-KDD Men’s Football & Women’s Handball competition on 10th November at Al Sahel Sports Club at Abu Halifa and the IDAK-KDD Annual Sports Day on 17th November at Aquamarine Resort at Nuwaiseeb.
For Men’s Football, Mighty Mustangs (MM) was led by Dr. Joju, and Power Panthers (PP) was led by Dr. Jal James. Dr Ranjitha (MM) and Dr Remya (PP) captained their respective Women’s Handball teams. The competition promised to be fierce, as players from both teams had been training rigorously in preparation for this event. IDAK President, Dr. Thomas Thomas inaugurated the event. The matches were officiated by the match referee Mr Irshadul Haq, Physical Education Teacher, at Indian Public School, Salmiya. In the tightly-fought handball match, MM defeated PP (12 – 3). Dr Ranjitha from MM was awarded the best player trophy for scoring 8 goals for her team.
The brilliant efforts of Dr. Bankima (MM) who scored 4 goals and Dr Parvathy (PP) who scored 3 deserve a special mention. This was followed by the Men’s football championship match. MM reigned supreme again and defeated PP 1-0. The match-winning goal was scored by Dr Ranjith, who was also declared the best player. The prizes were distributed by the Chief Guest for the event - Mr. AnandHarith, Business Systems Manager of KDD, and by Mr Sreeraj from Al Mullah Exchange who was the Guest of Honor.
The much-awaited Annual sports day was held at the beautiful venue by the seaside at Aquamarine Resort. This unique venue brought out the best from all the participants, which guaranteed a day of friendly competition, camaraderie, and, of course, smiles. The day's events included a variety of sports, from traditional favorites like athletics and short-put to more unconventional competitions like the tug-of-war. Laughter and cheers echoed throughout the venue as colleagues showcased their athletic abilities and teamwork.
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the awards ceremony, where participants were recognized for their achievements on the field. Trophies and medals were presented to winners in various categories, including Men’s 50-meter race (First place – Mr. Aneef, Second Place – Dr. Aslam, and Third Place – Dr. Christy), Women’s 50-meter race (First place – Dr. Bankima, Second Place – Dr. Parvathy and Third Place – Dr. Sushma), Men’s short-put (First place – Mr. Aneef, Second Place – Dr. Sabisabah and Third Place – Dr. Christy) and Women’s short-put (First place – Dr. Bankima, Second Place – Dr. Anjana and Third Place – Dr Sharon). PP won both the Men’s and Women’s Tug-of-war matches. At the end of the IDAK-KDD Sports Championship 2022-23, Power Panthers were declared the IDAK-KDD Sports champions with 158 points, and Mighty Mustangs were declared the runner-up with 122 points. The captains of PP, Dr Bobby and Dr Remya received the championship trophy and the captains of MM, Dr. Noufal and Dr Amrita received the runners-up trophy from MrAnand (KDD).
In addition to the intense matches, the event offered a range of activities for children and adults alike. The swimming pool, beach volleyball court, and trampolines were the main attractions for the families present which added to the festive atmosphere. Dr Thomas, President of IDAK and the driving force behind the sports day expressed excitement about the event, saying, "It's fantastic to see our dental community come together in such a lively and spirited way. While we are usually focused on our patients, it's equally important to prioritize our own well-being.
The Annual Sports Day provides a platform for us to do just that." IDAK members and families came in good numbers and cheered their respective teams. The sports committee headed by Dr. Anjana, under the guidance of Dr. Rahul, was praised for conducting all the sports events in the previous two years in a grand fashion. Dr. Jijan, Dr Santhosh, and Dr George were thanked for the stunning action snaps covering the whole event.
IDAK’s commitment not only to dental excellence but also to fostering a healthy lifestyle among its members was showcased in these two-weekend events. As IDAKians and their families dispersed, the echoes of cheers and the memories of a day filled with magic lingered, creating anticipation for the next term’s events.
