TEHRAN, Jun 12: Iranian clerics used Friday prayer sermons across the country to deliver a series of warnings against the United States, Israel and regional countries perceived to be supporting them, signaling a harder line amid ongoing tensions in the region.
Speaking in the holy city of Qom, senior cleric Alireza Arafi said targeting US interests beyond Iran's borders has become part of the Islamic Republic's strategy. He warned that areas including the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, Bab al-Mandab and the Red Sea should be considered potential arenas of confrontation if what he described as hostile actions continue.
In Karaj, Friday prayer leader Mohammad Mehdi Hosseini Hamedani warned that any country allowing its territory or facilities to be used against Iran could see its infrastructure and interests become targets for Iranian armed forces. He also rejected negotiations conducted under threats, saying they would not benefit the country.
Meanwhile, Ahvaz Friday prayer leader Mohammad Nabi Mousavifard said any retreat in the face of pressure from the United States and Israel was "unacceptable." He stressed that Iran's security depends not only on military strength but also on media influence, economic resilience and national unity, accusing Iran's adversaries of attempting to weaken public morale and create divisions within society.
The remarks come as tensions remain high following recent military exchanges and diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing a wider regional conflict.
