KUWAIT CITY, Dec 28: Cabinet Resolution No. 1657/2025, revoking the Kuwaiti citizenship certificates of four individuals, as well as those who acquired citizenship through dependency, was published in the official gazette “Kuwait Al- Youm” on Sunday, reports Al-Seyassah daily. The Cabinet’s decision was based on Article 21 bis (a) of the Kuwaiti Nationality Law and its amendments, which states, “A Kuwaiti citizenship certificate shall be revoked if it is found to have been granted unlawfully based on fraud, false statements, or perjury. Citizenship shall be revoked by a decision of the Cabinet upon the presentation of the Minister of Interior.”
It is worth highlighting that the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef chaired the meeting held recently by the Higher Committee for Kuwaiti Citizenship Investigations, which decided to revoke the citizenship of several individuals, pending their submission to the Cabinet. The cases included revocations due to fraud, false statements, and forgery, several individuals who acquired citizenship under Article 8, one case under Article 7 (for the higher interest of Kuwait), and a case involving a naturalized citizen who had performed distinguished service.
According to informed sources, those affected by the Higher Committee’s decision include a man currently serving a three-year sentence in the Central Prison. He was arrested at the end of April after being found to have managed approximately 16 fake social media accounts used to spread rumors and defame several citizens in exchange for money. He is the son of a naturalized citizen and was working in coordination with another individual outside Kuwait, who was later apprehended.
The second suspect was arrested through Interpol, and both are currently held in the Central Prison. The sources confirmed the committee’s commitment to continuing its crackdown on fake accounts and prosecuting those responsible for spreading false information and violating individuals’ privacy. They stressed that the committee’s decisions included revoking the citizenship of a former MP’s uncle, who had been fraudulently registered as his brother, as well as another individual registered under the name of a former MP’s father.
