France Urges Urgent Diplomacy to Avert Wider Middle East Escalation

PARIS (AP), Mar 27: France has reiterated that its position in the Middle East remains “strictly defensive,” emphasizing diplomacy as the only viable path to de-escalation, according to remarks made on Friday by Catherine Vautrin.

Speaking on Europe 1 and CNews as G7 foreign ministers met outside Paris in the presence of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Vautrin said France’s strategy is focused on preventing further escalation in the region through diplomatic engagement.

She stressed that the objective is to “facilitate the diplomatic path,” adding that such an approach is essential to restoring peace. Referring to tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, she warned that many countries are increasingly concerned and urged urgent international efforts to find a peaceful solution.
