KUWAIT CITY, Jan 16: The Criminal Court, headed by Counselor Abdullah Al-Osaimi has sentenced 4 Europeans working for the Kuwait Health Office in London to life imprisonment, and fined them double the amount they have embezzled in what is believed to be the severest punishment yet to be imposed in embezzlement cases, reports Al-Qabas daily. According to court papers the men are said to have embezzled collectively £11 million. An informed source told Al-Qabas that this ruling confirms the need for strict protection of public funds at home and abroad, and added the Public Prosecution has exerted great efforts in this case, by investigating officials at home and abroad, and employees of the Ministry of Health, and concluded that there were documents proving the embezzlement of money. The source pointed out that rulings in most cases of embezzlement of public money are issued with prison sentences and fines, and this is evidence that corruption is being detected is on the increase, and there is no longer a cover for the sick conscience and betrayers of trust and those who abuse power.
