KUWAIT CITY, Oct 16: In an ongoing effort to tackle the issue of spoiled food in various consumer distribution markets, inspectors from the Commercial Control Department within the Ministry of Commerce and Industry have taken action. They have shut down meat outlets in four supermarkets located in the Salmiya area due to the sale of rotten and adulterated meat, which constitutes a breach of consumer protection regulations.

During routine inspections of supermarkets, the Ministry's inspectors discovered a common violation in four markets, all of which are frequented by customers. The violation was specifically related to the meat section, where the violators were found thawing frozen meat, presenting it as chilled meat, and selling it to unsuspecting consumers. It was revealed through a review of official invoices that the frozen meat was of a different origin, even including frozen liver. This suggests a deliberate attempt by the market officials to deceive and endanger consumers by selling products unfit for consumption.

The sources also indicated that legal procedures are underway, with the intention of referring the violators to the prosecution for necessary legal actions.

Regarding the increasing occurrence of seizures of adulterated foods in recent times in various markets and the subsequent concerns among consumers, the sources provided reassurance. They pointed out that the significant number of seizures carried out by the Commercial Control Authority is a positive sign that underscores the vigilance and commitment of the Ministry of Commerce's supervisory system. Their efforts are geared towards restraining violators and preventing the recurrence of such violations.
