MUSCAT, Sept 11: Four unknown projectiles struck two vessels about 4 nautical miles west of Khasab, Oman, causing a fire on one vessel, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said.

UKMTO said it received a third-party report at 1910 UTC on Thursday concerning an incident involving two vessels in the area.

The master of another vessel reported seeing four unknown projectiles hit the two vessels, which were located about 6 nautical miles north of his position. One of the vessels caught fire, while the status of the second vessel was not immediately known.

Authorities are investigating the incident, UKMTO said, advising vessels operating in the area to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity.

UKMTO's latest warning follows a series of maritime security incidents reported in and around the Strait of Hormuz in recent weeks.
