LONDON, May 5: A UK jury on Tuesday convicted four Palestine Action activists of criminal damage over a 2024 break-in at the premises of Israeli defence firm Elbit Systems, marking the first convictions in the high-profile case.
The verdict follows a retrial after an earlier jury in February cleared the defendants of aggravated burglary but failed to reach decisions on several other charges.
Prosecutors said the group broke into the Elbit site in Bristol, western England, in August 2024 and caused more than £1 million ($1.35 million) in damage. Jurors, after more than 14 hours of deliberation, found Charlotte Head, Samuel Corner, Leona Kamio and Fatema Rajwani guilty of destroying equipment using sledgehammers and crowbars.
Corner was also convicted of grievous bodily harm, though the jury cleared him of the more serious charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Two other activists, Zoe Rogers and Jordan Devlin, who had previously been cleared of aggravated burglary, were found not guilty of the remaining charges.
Palestine Action has targeted facilities linked to Israeli defence firms in the UK, arguing its actions are aimed at disrupting arms production. Elbit Systems, which employs around 20,000 people globally, is a major defence technology company.
