KUWAIT CITY, Sept 18: Four prominent Kuwaiti executives have been named to Forbes Middle East’s prestigious 2025 list of Sustainability Leaders, which highlights 126 influential figures advancing sustainable business practices across the region's key industries.
Leading the Kuwaiti cohort is Isam Al-Sager, Vice Chairman and Group CEO of the National Bank of Kuwait (NBK), who has earned the top sustainability ranking among Kuwaiti executives for the second consecutive year. Al-Sager also placed sixth in the banking and financial services sector across the Middle East, a testament to his continued leadership in driving environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards within Kuwait’s largest financial institution.

Joining Al-Sager on the list are three other Kuwaiti business leaders:

- Bader Nasser Al-Kharafi, Vice Chairman and Group CEO of Zain Telecommunications Group, and
- Tariq Al-Sultan, Vice Chairman and CEO of Agility.
Their inclusion reflects Kuwait’s growing commitment to sustainability across banking, telecom, investment, and logistics sectors.
Forbes Middle East’s third annual Sustainability Leaders list recognizes executives across 15 industries, including banking, energy and utilities, telecom, renewable energy, investment, logistics, waste management, and more. The rankings evaluate companies based on a comprehensive set of ESG-related criteria—such as sustainability reporting, green financing, resource management, transparency, and carbon footprint.
Particularly in the financial and investment sectors, Forbes emphasized green financing and emissions management. Other key metrics included water and waste efficiency, renewable energy usage, and technological adoption for sustainability.
Al-Sager’s leadership at NBK has been distinguished by strong reporting transparency and measurable advances in sustainability practices, aligning with regional and global climate goals.
The UAE leads the 2025 list with 67 representatives, followed by Saudi Arabia with 23, and Egypt with 12. The list features a broad spectrum of executive roles, from CEOs and board chairs to chief sustainability officers, showcasing the depth of leadership driving the region’s environmental agenda.
The recognition comes amid notable regional achievements: Masdar expanded its renewable energy portfolio by 62%, reaching 51 gigawatts; Emirates Global Aluminium marked the halfway point in constructing the UAE’s largest aluminium recycling plant; Vodafone Egypt transitioned entirely to renewable on-grid electricity; and Infinity Power made significant strides toward a 10 GW renewable energy capacity across Africa.
With leaders like Al-Sager, Al-Sabah, Al-Kharafi, and Al-Sultan at the forefront, Kuwait is asserting itself as a serious player in the region’s sustainable transformation.
