Four Jailed 10 Years, Fined 199 Million Dinars in Kuwait Money Laundering Case

KUWAIT CITY, Jun 23: The State Security and Terrorism Crimes Court has issued 46 verdicts in a series of high-profile cases involving money laundering, terrorism financing, joining banned organizations, sympathy with prohibited groups, and incitement to sedition.

The rulings were delivered by a court panel chaired by Judge Nasser Al-Badr, with Judges Omar Al-Mulaifi, Abdullah Al-Faleh, and Salem Al-Zayed as members.

The verdicts included prison terms, heavy financial penalties, commercial bans, deportation orders, and acquittals.

Four Jailed, Fined 199 Million Dinars in Money Laundering Case
In one of the most prominent cases, the court sentenced four defendants to 10 years in prison after convicting them of money laundering.

The court also imposed fines totaling approximately 199 million Kuwaiti dinars.

In addition, commercial entities linked to the case were fined around 99 million dinars, equivalent to the value of the laundered funds. The court also ordered that these entities be permanently banned from engaging in commercial activities.

Four Convicted of Financing and Joining Hezbollah
In another major ruling, the court sentenced four defendants, including three Kuwaiti citizens and one Lebanese national, to 10 years in prison after convicting them of joining and financing the Lebanese Hezbollah.

The defendants were also fined a total of 6 million dinars.

Kuwaiti Citizen Sentenced in Separate Money Laundering Case

The court also sentenced a Kuwaiti citizen to 10 years in prison and fined him 6.07 million dinars in a separate money laundering case.

Twitter User Sentenced in State Security Case
Among the rulings, the court sentenced Twitter user Fawaz Al-Kathiri to five years in prison in a state security case.

Other Sentences for Sympathy and Incitement Cases
The court also issued prison terms in other cases related to sympathizing with banned groups and inciting sedition.

Several citizens were sentenced to three years in prison on related charges, while a non-Kuwaiti defendant received a two-year prison sentence, to be followed by deportation after serving the term.

33 Citizens Acquitted

The verdicts also included the acquittal of 33 citizens in several cases. The court overturned previous in absentia sentences against them and cleared them of charges related to inciting sectarian strife and sedition.

The series of rulings reflects the court’s handling of a wide range of state security and terrorism-related cases, with penalties ranging from acquittals to lengthy prison sentences and multimillion-dollar fines.
