RIYADH, Oct 4: Four Indian nurses and a Saudi national were killed in a road accident on the Taif-Rania road in Saudi Arabia, according to reports.
The Indian victims included two nurses from Kerala, Jaisymol Mathew and Jobina Johny, both from Kottayam, and two nurses from Tamil Nadu, Vijayalakshmi Jagadeesh and Hepsiba Devamani. The driver of the vehicle was a Saudi national.
The four nurses were working at government health dispensaries in the Taif Governorate. They had travelled to Rania on their day off for shopping when the accident occurred. Reports said the vehicle was involved in a collision and overturned, with all five occupants dying at the scene or before they could be taken to hospital.
The bodies were taken to the mortuary of Rania General Hospital, while procedures were under way to complete the formalities and repatriate the victims. The Indian Consulate in Jeddah, NORKA and local community organisations were reported to be assisting with the arrangements.
The deaths have prompted condolences from colleagues, friends and members of the Indian community, as arrangements continue to return the victims' remains to their families in India.
