KUWAIT CITY, Nov 6: The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said Friday it captured four expatriates for using their social media accounts to assault the State of Kuwait and calling for a demonstration in front of the Egyptian embassy.

Security forces arrested four Egyptian nationals, including a woman, and charged them with “abusing their personal social media accounts and using them to publish and re-publish phrases of assault against the State of Kuwait, its institutions and citizens,” the MoI’s Public Relations and Security Media department said in a statement.

It said the arrestees published messages to “provoke the Egyptian community in the country to demonstrate before the Egyptian Embassy in Kuwait.” The aim of the messages, it said, is to incite “feelings of hatred” following a scuffle that had recently taken place between expatriates and Kuwaiti citizens in a mall in Hawally, thus violating the law and undermining public order.

The MoI named the arrestees as Waleed Mahmoud Ahmad Suwaisi, an MoI employee, Yasser Abdulaziz, a Holy Quran teacher in the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Mustafa Mahmoud Mahfoudh, an employee in a taxi company, and Muna Mahmoud Ali Shahata, a school cleaner. The ministry warned people against the misuse of social media means.
