LOS ANGELES, Feb 19, (Agencies): Survivor contestant and former NBA player Scot Pollard is on the road to recovery after undergoing a heart transplant last Friday. His wife, Dawn Pollard, has been providing updates on his progress through messages posted on social media. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), she shared the positive news, stating, “Scot has a new heart! Surgery went well, and I’ve been told the heart is big, powerful, and is a perfect fit.”

Expressing gratitude for the ongoing prayers and support, Dawn emphasized the significance of the donor, referring to them as a hero. As Scot, who recently turned 49, embarked on the crucial phase of recovery, his wife extended her deepest thanks to everyone involved in the process.

The retired athlete’s hospital stay coincided with his birthday and Valentine’s Day, both of which his wife helped him celebrate while in the intensive care unit of Nashville’s Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The need for a heart transplant arose due to a genetic condition triggered by a virus Scot contracted in 2021, causing his heart to beat an additional 10,000 times per day, as reported by the Associated Press.

This genetic condition had familial ties, as Scot’s father succumbed to it at the age of 54 when Scot was just 16, and half of his siblings also inherited the condition. Standing at 6 feet 11 inches, Scot’s stature posed a unique challenge in finding a suitable heart “with a pump big and strong enough to supply blood to his extra-large body,” according to the AP.

Dawn shared a glimpse of Scot’s recovery journey on Saturday, posting a photo of him in his hospital bed, marking a hopeful step forward in his healing process.
