Former Iranian Diplomat Suggests Deal to End War With U.S. and Israel

TEHRAN, Apr 3: Mohammad Javad Zarif has outlined a potential pathway toward a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, suggesting limits on Tehran’s nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions.

Writing in Foreign Affairs, Zarif — who played a key role in the 2015 Iran nuclear deal — proposed that Iran could reduce uranium enrichment levels and reopen the Strait of Hormuz as part of a broader agreement. He also suggested the possibility of consolidating regional nuclear activities into a single enrichment site involving China and Russia.

While Zarif currently holds no official government position, his influence remains notable following the election of reformist President Masoud Pezeshkian. It remains unclear how Donald Trump would respond to the proposal, particularly given his longstanding position that Iran should not be allowed to enrich uranium.

Zarif also floated confidence-building measures, including restoring limited diplomatic engagement and easing travel restrictions between Washington and Tehran, which have had no formal diplomatic ties since 1980.
