Former Indian president Mukherjee dies at 84 from Covid-19

NEW DELHI, Aug 31: Indian government sources on Monday announced that former President Pranab Mukherjee passed away today evening at the age of 84 after being hospitalised for COVID-19 a few weeks back.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a statement, “India grieves the passing away of Bharat Ratna Shri Pranab Mukherjee.
“He has left an indelible mark on the development trajectory of our nation. A scholar par excellence, a towering statesman, he was admired across the political spectrum and by all sections of society.”

Mukherjee, who served as president of India between 2012 and 2017, had tested positive for coronavirus and entered a coma after brain surgery earlier this month.(KUNA)
