KUWAIT CITY, Oct 8: Early leaders Kuwait Goan Association continued their fine form when they beat Kerala Challengers 1-0, while DHF FC climbed to second spot in as many games after beating AVC Sports & Cultural Association 1-0 in the second match while FC Sparx and last year’s champions, Soccer Kerala settled for a 1-1 draw, for the J. P. D’Mello Rolling Trophy, KIFF League organized by Kuwait Indian Football Federation and powered by Gulf Cable & Electricals C. All the matches were played at Al Bayan Ground on Sept 30, 2016.

In the first match, Kuwait Goan Association (KGA) looking smart in their new jerseys for this season, carried the good looks into the field, playing some pleasing soccer with play maker Bernardo Pires controlling their midfield and feeding the strong attack team led by Rafiq and Anthony Rego, who posed a constant threat to the Kerala goal.

The only goal was however gifted to KGA when Kerala Challengers goalkeeper attempting to make a flying save, could not hold on to the ball and Rego Anthony who was lurking in the goal area, easily tapped in the winner.

Kerala Challengers started well, and nearly scored in the 5th minute of the game, but the crossbar came to KGA’s rescue. Abraham, Jagdeesh and Jamal played well for the Kerala team, but they could not get past the strong KGA defense led by John Honda, Muricio and Joaquim.

Rego Anthony was declared man of the match and the award was presented to him by Albert Pinto, a former player and diehard soccer enthusiast. The officials were Dylan Fernandes, Robert Bernard and Alidio.

Shrugging off their earlier lethargic display against United Goans Centre, DHL FC edged AVC Sports & Cultural Association 1-0 in a match where both teams had their chances. Seby, who has been the backbone of DHL’s attack over the years, once again proved his worth by scoring the only goal of the match.

The obvious choice for man of the match was Seby of DHL FC, and he received the award from Lawrence Pinto. The game was officiated by Derrick Gomindes and he was assisted by Rosario and Agnelo on the lines.

In the final match of the day, FC Sparx shared honors with Soccer Kerala and the match ended in an exciting 1-1 draw. After a barren first half when Soccer Kerala missed quite a few chances with the woodwork coming to the aid of FC Sparx, Jithin Jacob got FC Sparx the lead when he scored from a well worked move. Soccer Kerala however equalized in the dying minutes of the game when super sub, Majeed scored to give his team the equalizer and still in seach of their first victory. Referee Bernard Pereira controlled the game well which saw as many as seven cautions.

He was ably assisted by Arif and Rosario on the lines. Man of the match was Jinto Johnson of Soccer Kerala and he received the award from Anthony Rebello, former Indian soccer star.
