KUWAIT CITY, Jun 18: Kuwait's Foreign Minister, Sheikh Jarrah Al-Jaber, held a telephone conversation on Thursday with Iranian Foreign Minister Dr. Abbas Araqchi, during which he expressed Kuwait’s hope that the recently signed memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran would contribute to strengthening stability across the region.
According to a statement, Sheikh Jarrah said Kuwait hopes the agreement will help safeguard security and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz while paving the way for sustainable solutions to outstanding regional issues through dialogue and diplomacy.
The Kuwaiti foreign minister emphasized that relations between states should be governed by the principles of international law and the objectives enshrined in the United Nations Charter. He stressed the importance of adhering to the principles of good neighborliness, respecting the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of all countries, and refraining from interference in their internal affairs.
Sheikh Jarrah also underscored the need to avoid the use or threat of force, calling for disputes and conflicts to be resolved through peaceful means. He further highlighted the importance of ending support for proxy groups, saying such measures would help reinforce regional security and stability and serve the common interests of the countries and peoples of the region.
The call comes amid heightened regional attention on the US-Iran memorandum of understanding and its potential impact on Gulf security, maritime navigation, and broader efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East.
