KUWAIT CITY, Oct 8: Inspectors from the Commercial Control Department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry have administratively closed the main office and warehouse of a food supply company because it used expired food products to prepare meals, reports Al-Rai daily.
According to reliable sources, “The Ministry inspectors have seized quantities of meals unfit for human consumption at the company’s headquarters and warehouse, ready for use, display, and sale to restaurants and the general public.”
The sources indicated that “the meat used to prepare meals is of unknown origin, had been thawed, and had expired last August. To add insult to injury no commercial data was available for the seized products.”
The sources added, "The seized ingredients also showed that the company used expired cheese, including different types. The seized list also included a pomegranate molasses product,.”
The sources said, “The company employees were caught in the act of preparing kebab, tikka, and ribs made from spoiled meat.”
The sources disclosed “The violator faces the charges of commercial fraud, and accordingly, the oversight inspectors decided to close the company’s headquarters and warehouse, and legal procedures are expected to be completed soon following which the file will be handed over to the Public Prosecution.
The “Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mohammed Al-Aiban, has instructed the inspectors and emergency teams at the Commercial Control and Consumer Protection Sector to intensify their field visits to markets to confront and contain violations in prices and/or quality
