ABU DHABI, May 4: Multiple flights across the United Arab Emirates were suspended and several inbound aircraft diverted following missile threats linked to Iran, according to aviation tracking data and official statements.
The disruption came after the UAE Ministry of Defence confirmed that four cruise missiles had been detected heading toward the country, with air defence systems activated to intercept the threats. Authorities said the precautionary suspension and rerouting of flights were implemented to ensure passenger safety amid the evolving security situation.
The airspace over the UAE was nearly empty Monday night as the country faced multiple sirens warning of incoming drones, according to the flight tracking website FlightRadar24. Just days ago, the airport, which is among the world’s busiest, announced it had mostly returned to full operations.
Similar airspace disruptions and flight diversions have occurred during previous attacks in the region, as authorities prioritize aviation safety during active missile and drone threats.
