Air Traffic Resumes at Kuwait Airport as Fog Clears

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 13: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced on Thursday that air traffic at Kuwait International Airport has resumed following an improvement in weather conditions and increased visibility.

DGCA spokesperson Abdullah Al-Rajhi said the airport has reopened for both arriving and departing flights after a temporary suspension earlier in the day due to dense fog that had reduced visibility to less than 50 meters.

He noted that airport operations and air traffic control teams worked continuously to monitor the situation and ensure a smooth return to normal operations, with passenger and crew safety as their top priority.

Al-Rajhi added that flights are now operating according to their regular schedules in coordination with airlines and relevant authorities. He emphasized that the DGCA continues to closely monitor weather conditions in cooperation with specialized agencies to maintain operational safety and ensure the uninterrupted flow of air traffic.

Earlier, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced on Thursday that several incoming flights to Kuwait International Airport were diverted to neighboring countries due to dense fog that significantly reduced visibility, prioritizing the safety of passengers and flight crews.

DGCA spokesperson Abdullah Al-Rajhi said the airport was experiencing heavy fog with horizontal visibility dropping below 100 meters, making takeoffs and landings unsafe. As a result, several flights were rerouted to nearby airports.

Al-Rajhi added that flight operations at Kuwait International Airport will gradually return to normal once weather conditions improve and visibility increases. He emphasized that the situation is being closely monitored and that updates will be communicated through official channels.

He also thanked passengers and airlines for their understanding and cooperation, stressing that safety remains the top priority and that these precautions are necessary to ensure the smooth and secure flow of air traffic once normal conditions resume.
