KUALA LUMPUR, Sep 8: Five people, including four Health Ministry personnel and a pilot, were killed Tuesday when a helicopter crashed in Malaysia’s eastern Sarawak state, authorities said.
The passengers were Health Ministry personnel — a medical officer, an assistant medical officer and two nurses — who were traveling on official duty aboard a Flying Doctor Service helicopter, state news agency Bernama reported.
The helicopter crashed near the Long Lellang Short Take-Off and Landing Airport after departing from Miri.
Galong Luang, a resident of the Miri Division and chairman of the Miri Division Disaster Management Committee, confirmed that all five people aboard the helicopter died, citing information from the Fire and Rescue Department and the Health Ministry.
Authorities had not immediately released further details about the circumstances of the crash or the identities of the victims.
