KUWAIT CITY, Jan 10: The Criminal Court presided over by Justice Miteb Al-Aridi issued a verdict on the State Security case in which 12 citizens were charged for joining the Islamic State (IS). The verdict was announced in the presence of the first to the sixth defendants, in addition to the twelfth defendant, while the seventh to eleventh suspects were sentenced in absentia.

The court sentenced the seventh to eleventh suspects to 10 years imprisonment with hard labor and immediate execution, and refrained from pronouncing verdict against the first to sixth suspects, and sentenced the twelfth suspect to two years in jail.

They are to be placed under the observation of state security department and their development report will be issued over the next two years. The suspects were accused of committing hostile act against Iraq and Syria by joining ISIS with the purpose of fighting the two countries. They were also charged for adopting radical ideology to destroy the fundamentals of constitutional state by calling for toppling of the regime.
