A 24-year-old woman was rescued in Brazil after allegedly being abducted and held captive for five days by her former partner, who reportedly could not accept the end of their relationship.

Emiliane Tamara Nunes Carvalho disappeared on August 17 after leaving a medical appointment in Águas Lindas de Goiás, according to reports. Her family alerted police after she failed to return.

Police later became suspicious when the family of her former partner, identified as Ailton Rodrigues de Souza, also reported him missing.

Investigators eventually located Souza and arrested him in flagrante on August 21 after he allegedly resisted arrest. Police reportedly discovered that he had staged his own disappearance, apparently in an attempt to divert suspicion while allegedly holding his former partner captive.

Carvalho was found inside a house in poor condition. Reports said she was gagged and restrained by her ankles, arms and neck.

Police allegedly seized several items from the property, including:

  • A 9mm pistol
  • Sedatives
  • Restraints used to restrain the victim

Investigators believe the alleged kidnapping was motivated by Souza's refusal to accept the couple's separation. Police said he allegedly abducted Carvalho as a means of controlling and punishing her after the relationship ended.

The investigation remains ongoing, with Souza facing charges related to the alleged abduction and other offenses.
