WASHINGTON, Oct 13, (Agencies): Phyllis Coates, the pioneering actress who brought to life the iconic DC Comics character Lois Lane on the small screen, has passed away at the age of 96. According to multiple sources, she peacefully departed due to natural causes on a Wednesday while residing at the Motion Picture Home in Woodland Hills, California.

Her daughter, Laura Press, shared these heartfelt words: "She made significant contributions to the industry, and her illustrious career traversed a multitude of genres." She also emphasized the tranquility of her mother's passing.

Hailing from Wichita Falls, Texas, Phyllis Coates made her remarkable debut as the fearless Lois Lane, starring alongside George Reeves in the 1951 film "Superman and the Mole Men." This groundbreaking movie marked the first full-length theatrical feature to showcase the iconic Superman and was the inaugural feature film ever based on a DC Comics character. Subsequently, the film's success led to the creation of a syndicated television series.

Coates, originally known as Gypsie Ann Evarts Stell, reprised her role as Lois alongside George Reeves, who portrayed Clark Kent, in the popular series "Adventures of Superman." She continued to portray Lois in all 26 episodes of the first season, leaving an indelible mark on the character and the world of entertainment.
