KUWAIT CITY, Nov 7: It seems Kuwait's video-call scammers are getting increasingly creative or perhaps running out of ideas!
Until recently, the usual trick involved fraudsters appearing on video calls dressed in what looked like Kuwait police uniforms, pretending to be security officials and frightening unsuspecting victims with fabricated allegations and demands for personal information.
But apparently, that act was not convincing enough. The scammers have now taken their operation a step further by transferring victims to another person posing as a Commercial bank manager, adding another character to their little video-call drama.
First comes the police officer, then comes the banker! One can only wonder who will appear next — a judge, a prosecutor or perhaps the Central Bank governor!
While the scammers seem determined to expand their cast, the public has become increasingly familiar with their tricks. The fake uniforms, official-sounding threats and sudden transfers to supposed bank representatives have become a predictable routine.
The question is: When will these scammers finally stop recycling the same old tricks?
Perhaps they should realise that while they keep changing costumes and adding new characters, people are already familiar with the script!
A word of caution: No one should share banking details, passwords, OTPs or personal information with callers claiming to represent police authorities or banks. End suspicious calls and contact the relevant institution through its official channels.
