KUWAIT CITY, Feb 23: Eng. Samira Al-Kandari, Acting Director General of the Environment Public Authority, emphasized today the importance of Kuwaiti citizens and expats maintaining cleanliness during Kuwait’s national holiday celebrations.

Al-Kandari stressed that everyone must refrain from littering, including the disposal of balloons, as it violates Article 33 of the Environmental Protection Law. Violators may face fines ranging from 50 to 500 dinars. He highlighted the ongoing collaboration between the Environment Authority and the Ministry of Interior to enforce Environmental Protection Law No. 42 of 2024 and its amendments.

Joint inspection teams, comprising personnel from both agencies, will monitor celebration sites to ensure compliance with environmental regulations. Al-Kandari noted that Environment Public Authority officers will be present throughout the holiday period to monitor environmental conditions. The Authority is working closely with the Ministry of Interior’s Environmental Police to prevent negative behaviors and improve environmental quality.

Additionally, a team of environmental officers has been deployed across the country to raise awareness and mitigate pollution during the national holiday period. Measures have been taken to restrict the use of environmentally harmful materials, such as foam, chemicals, and plastic and rubber waste, including balloons, with the Ministry of Commerce issuing a decision to prohibit their use during the holidays.
