KUWAIT CITY, Sept 29: The General Department for Residence Affairs at the Ministry of Interior has begun correcting the status of Syrians — Syrians who fall in the category of residence law violators — who entered the country after the war broke out and were unable to return to their country, reports Al-Jarida daily. Assistant Undersecretary for Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs at the Ministry, Major-General Sheikh Mazen Al- Jarrah said based on the instructions issued by HH the Amiri and in line with Kuwait’s position as the Humanitarian Center, the concerned authorities have decided to give these Syrians dependent visas for one year provided they pay the fines for the days they have stayed illegally in the country and the residence fees.

Al-Jarrah added all violators who apply to correct their status shall be given one year residence permit, subject to renewal, until the situation in Syria normalizes. This decision will help the Syrian children who are without residence permit to attend school. The senior official explained, the father will have to sign a pledge that when the situation in Syria improves these children will have to return to their country.

For his part, the Minister of Education Dr Bader Al-Essa said yesterday the ministry will check on the capacity of the schools to absorb the Syrian children and provide them educational facilities to through charities and help the needy receive education in private schools.

Al-Essa added, this proposal will be submitted to the Council of Ministers after taking into account the exact number of the Syrians.
