Final day sees 37 candidates, including 7 women, join race

KUWAIT CITY, March 13: Thirty-seven candidates, including seven women, registered on the 10th and last day of the registration period for candidates in the upcoming parliamentary election. The total number of candidates reached 255 — 241 men and 14 women. Three candidates have so far withdrawn from the electoral race. Following are the candidates who registered on Wednesday:

First Constituency: eight men and one woman (Ahmed Al-Saffar, Abdullah Mudhafar, Abdullah Al-Mutairi, Ali Kazem, Fatima Karam, Fakhri Rajab, Mubarak Al-Tarrad, Mustafa Behbahani and Nasser Al-Nasrallah)

Second Constituency: five men and two women (Bader Al-Bazzali, Jaber Al-Bazzali, Sarah Al-Dabi, Shaima Al-Hajri, Abdulaziz Al- Bazzali, Abdullah Abdulaziz and Ali Ghuloum Husain)

Third Constituency: three men and two women (Mohammad Al-Jouan, Suhaila Abdulaziz Al-Salim, Zahra Al-Sherazi, Khalid Meshari and Thamer Al- Mutairi)

Fourth Constituency: nine men and one woman (Ahmed Al-Shuraian, Jarrah Al- Mutairi, Zaid Saeed, Saud Al-Shuwaier, Sultan Al-Shemmari, Abdulghani Al-Anzi, Ali Al-Rehaili, Dahd Al-Bazzali, Fahima Al- Rashedi and Mohammad Al-Selaili)

Fifth Constituency: five men and one woman (Talal Al-Azmi, Abeer Al-Otaibi, Ghanim Al- Hejailan, Fawzi Al-Saqr, Naif Al-Azmi and Yaqoub Al-Refaie) First Constituency candidate Naser Al- Nasrallah stated that he represents a group committed to protecting national identity.

He thanked HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Dr Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al- Sabah and Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and acting Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Al-Sabah for discovering those who obtained Kuwaiti citizenship through forgery. He called on all the eligible voters to participate in the election to cut the way for forgers and dual citizenship holders, and prevent them from entering the National Assembly. Second Constituency candidate Bader Al- Bazzali intends to focus on improving the citizens’ standard of living and improving the quality of services provided to citizens.

Asked about his being the fifth candidate of Bani Ghanim Tribe which could negatively affect the results of his co-tribe members, he clarified that he represents the Second Constituency and the entire Kuwait. He added nobody can prevent anyone from running for the election. Third Constituency candidate Thamer Al- Otaibi stressed that the governments before that of Sheikh Ahmed Al-Nawaf helped the citizens obtain their rights. He wondered why the citizens need to ask for the help of a lawmaker to finish his transaction or obtain his rights. He was quick to add that he is optimistic, considering the position of Kuwait in the Corruption Perception Index improved from 66th in 2019 to 22nd in 2023. Third Constituency candidate Suhaila Abdulaziz Al-Salim said she is concerned about preserving the national entity and combating corruption.
