Filipino Maid tortured for 6 years; no salary paid at all

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 16: In one of the worst cases of abuse of domestic helpers, the Criminal Court has set March 15, 2016, to look into the case of a Kuwaiti woman who stands accused of torturing her maid for six years, burning her and not paying her the salary for the entire period, according to a statement given by the maid to the Public Prosecution, reports Al-Qabas daily. Case papers indicate unable to bear the pain, the Filipino maid finally escaped from the house of her sponsor and sought help from her embassy in Kuwait. She told the embassy staff she had not been paid her salary for six years and instead was subjected to all sorts of torture and was kept locked behind the doors to prevent her from escaping.

Attorney Sultan Al-Tuwalah representing the Philippines Embassy in Kuwait said he has prepared the case papers and at the same time expressed his dismay at the sponsor for being so cruel, a behavior rejected by all religions.

Inappropriate clips: Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department have arrested an Iraqi national who put out videos on YouTube to promote decadence, drugs and immorality, says an Interior Ministry press release. Director of Public Relations and Security Media Brigadier Adel Al- Hashash explained that security operatives in their daily follow-up of the activities on Internet and social networking sites saw a channel on YouTube that broadcast inappropriate videos uploaded by the suspect. Investigations revealed the owner of the channel to be an Iraqi national, and he was summoned for investigation. Al-Hashash confirmed that officers from the electronic crime unit are efficient in trailing and referring criminals to prosecution.

Teacher’s payment probed: The Audit Bureau is investigating how KD 27,000 was paid to a teacher of an intermediate school in Hawalli in spite of the teacher not reporting for duty and not reporting the absence to the Hawalli Educational Directorate, reports Al-Rai daily.
