KUWAIT CITY, Sep 24: The Criminal Court, presided over by Counselor Khaled Al-Omara, has issued a verdict against a Filipino domestic worker accused of murdering a young Kuwaiti child. The court found her guilty of placing the child inside a washing machine and operating it, leading to his death.

The tragic incident took place in late December at the family’s residence in the Sabah Al-Salem suburb. According to case details, the parents lost track of their two-year-old son before the father discovered that the laundry room door on the rooftop was locked. Upon forcing the door open, he was horrified to find his son lying motionless inside the washing machine. The father immediately attempted to save the child by rushing him to the hospital; however, medical staff confirmed that the boy had already passed away.

During earlier hearings, the court confronted the defendant with the charge of murder. She denied committing the act, instead claiming that she had found the child drowned in a bucket of water. Despite her denial, the court reviewed the case evidence, witness testimony, and the findings of the Public Prosecution.

The Public Prosecution had strongly urged the Criminal Court to impose the death penalty, arguing that the crime was deliberate and constituted premeditated murder. Prosecutors emphasized that the act was not only a grave violation of human life but also a heinous crime that required the most severe punishment as a deterrent, to protect societal values, uphold justice, and reinforce public safety.

The court has now handed down its judgment, bringing closure to a case that shocked the nation and sparked wide public outrage.
