SUVA, Feb 28, (Xinhua): A heavy rain warning remains in force for the Western Division, including Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, and is now in force for the rest of the Fiji group, the Fiji Meteorological Services said on Saturday. A trough of low pressure with cloud and rain remains slow-moving over Fiji, it said.
Meanwhile, Category 2 Tropical Cyclone Urmil lies over Vanuatu and is expected to pass the southwest of Fiji on Saturday night. On this track, it is expected to direct a strong northwesterly wind flow, with active rain bands over the country.
Meteorologists warned that localized heavy falls could lead to flash flooding, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas, the Fiji Times reported. Members of the public are urged to remain alert, take necessary precautions, and continue to monitor official weather updates as conditions evolve.
