Fatat players celebrate Arab Basketball Championship bronze.

ALEXANDRIA, Cairo, Sept. 13: Fatat Club claimed third place and the bronze medal at the 27th Arab Women’s Basketball Championship after beating Egypt’s Al-Jazira 80-74 in the third-place playoff in Alexandria.

Egyptian club Sporting won the title after defeating compatriots Al Ahly 73-65 in the final.

Fatat’s bronze medal underlines the team’s steady progress in recent months. The club also finished third at the Arab Games in Sharjah, UAE, in February, continuing its strong run in international competitions.

Fatat professional Alexis Latrice was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player after an impressive campaign, adding a personal accolade to the team’s bronze medal.

Meanwhile, the Arab Basketball Federation announced the participating teams for the Arab Club Basketball Championship, which will be hosted by Al-Hikma in Beirut from October 9 to 20.

The 12-team field includes Kuwait Club and Kazma from Kuwait; Al-Hikma, Beirut, Hoops, and Centralia from Lebanon; Yemen’s Shaab Hadramout; Qatar’s Al-Arabi and Al-Rayyan; Syria’s Al-Ahli Aleppo; Oman’s Al-Seeb; and one team yet to be announced.

Kuwait Club will enter the Arab Championship just days after competing in the WASL West Asia finals, also in Beirut, from September 26 to October 1, leaving the team with a demanding schedule over a short period.
