Al-Jazeera journalist Wael Al-Dahdouh mourns over the body of one of his three children killed along with his wife in an Israeli strike at Al-Aqsa hospital in southern Gaza.

DOHA, Oct 26, (Agencies): Al Jazeera, a network based in Qatar, said in a statement on Wednesday that an Israeli strike on Gaza claimed the lives of a journalist’s family, as the airstrikes intensified in Gaza.

According to Al Jazeera, a strike on the Nuseirat refugee camp in the Gaza Strip claimed the lives of Wael Al-Dahdouh’s wife and two children, who were covering the conflict for the Arabic-language channel.

“Our colleague Wael Al-Dahdouh has lost his family in an Israeli airstrike. The Al Jazeera Media Network extends its sincere condolences and sympathy to him,” the statement read.

“His wife, son, and daughter were tragically killed in the Israeli occupation forces’ indiscriminate attack, and the rest of his family is buried beneath the rubble.”

Following widespread cross-border attacks by Hamas militants on October 7, which Israeli officials claim resulted in the deaths of over 1,400 people, Israel launched withering strikes on the small territory occupied by the Palestinians.

According to the health ministry run by Hamas, Israeli strikes have claimed the lives of over 6,500 people in Gaza, an increase of over 700 since Tuesday.

Al-Dahdouh was seen grieving over the bodies of his wife and children at a hospital in Deir el-Balah, in the southern Gaza Strip, in pictures and video that were published by Al Jazeera and circulated on social media.

The family, according to Al Jazeera, was staying in a makeshift residence after leaving Gaza City when Israel issued a warning to its citizens to relocate south as its forces stepped up their attacks on Hamas.

Al-Dahdouh stated on Al Jazeera, “This is the safe zone the occupation (Israeli) army was talking about.”

According to the media outlet, “they had sought refuge in the Nuseirat camp in the center of Gaza after being displaced by the initial bombardment in their neighborhood,” when their home was targeted.

The statement went on, “Al Jazeera holds the Israeli authorities accountable for our colleagues’ security and is extremely concerned about their safety and well-being in Gaza.”
