Families In Kuwait Can Now Report Drug Addiction Cases Safely And Legally

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 12: The Ministry of Interior has issued an important public advisory highlighting legal options available to individuals and families seeking help for drug addiction, reaffirming that Kuwait’s laws provide pathways for treatment without imposing criminal penalties in specific cases.

In an awareness campaign titled “Safeguarding Our Homeland,” the Ministry emphasized two key legal avenues aimed at encouraging rehabilitation while protecting individuals from prosecution.

According to the announcement, family members up to the third degree may file an addiction complaint/report for their relative through the designated hotlines 112 and 1884141. This report allows the individual to receive treatment at approved medical facilities without the initiation of criminal proceedings, provided the case meets the legal criteria.

The Ministry further clarified that individuals struggling with drug addiction may also voluntarily seek rehabilitation at licensed addiction-treatment centers. Those who come forward on their own and request admission for treatment will be granted care without having a criminal record registered against them, ensuring privacy and support during the recovery process.

Authorities stressed that the initiative aims to encourage families and individuals to proactively seek help, reduce the stigma surrounding addiction, and promote community safety by preventing drug-related harm.

The Ministry urged the public to use the official emergency and support lines for guidance and to rely on accredited treatment facilities for proper care. More information is available on the Ministry’s official website and social media platforms.
