KUWAIT CITY, Aug 2: Detectives in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh have solved 10 theft cases involving the impersonation of police officers after arresting a Bedoun accused of carrying out robberies targeting expatriates.
According to a security source, the suspect was arrested in the Al-Rai area, and police recovered a vehicle that had been reported stolen and allegedly used in the crimes. The suspect was referred to the Public Prosecution, where he faces charges of theft, impersonating a police officer, and drug use.
The source said the drug-related charge was based on the suspect’s confession that he targeted expatriates, particularly Asians, to obtain money to support his drug habit.
The investigation began after several expatriates in Farwaniya Governorate reported being stopped by a man wearing traditional Kuwaiti clothing who claimed to be a police officer. The suspect allegedly took their wallets for inspection and then instructed them to return to the police station to collect their belongings.
Police investigations revealed three similar cases registered at Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh Police Station, along with seven additional cases reported in Khaitan and Farwaniya.
A specialized team was formed to identify the suspect and trace the vehicle used in the robberies. After receiving information about the vehicle’s location at a shopping mall, police set up an ambush and arrested the suspect.
During questioning, the suspect admitted to committing the thefts, and victims later identified him during a lineup procedure. Authorities also confirmed that the vehicle used in the crimes had been reported stolen.
