Fake Cop Scams Syrian Expat, Steals 340 Dinars in Hawally

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 28: A Syrian expatriate fell victim to a brazen scam and robbery in Hawally when a fraudster posing as a policeman flagged him down, rifled through his car, and fled with 340 Kuwaiti dinars.

Security sources revealed the chilling details: the Syrian expat, born in 1987, was approached by a man claiming to be a cop who demanded ID, then conducted a sham vehicle search alleging drug suspicions before snatching the cash and speeding off in a suspicious pickup truck. The victim provided crucial details about the getaway vehicle, believed to be stolen or fitted with fake number plates, leading to a swift case filing at Al-Shaab police station for theft and impersonating an officer.

The file has been escalated to the Criminal Investigation Department, working with the General Directorate of Traffic's vast database to track the perpetrator. Authorities issued a stark warning: always demand official ID from anyone in plain clothes claiming authority, as per strict CID protocols allowing time for verification.

Citizens and expats are urged—if in doubt, dial the Ministry of Interior's 112 operations center immediately for rapid response and action.
