Fake Cop Robs Asian Expat During Bogus Drug Check in Kuwait

KUWAIT CITY, Jul 28: A man posing as a police detective allegedly carried out a daring roadside robbery in Ali Sabah Al-Salem after stopping an Asian expatriate and tricking him into believing he was facing an official security inspection.

The victim, a 39-year-old expatriate, told police that the suspect approached him, identified himself as a cop and demanded to check his identification. The suspect then searched the vehicle, claiming he suspected possible drug-related activity, before allegedly stealing KD 390 from the victim and speeding away.

The victim managed to provide authorities with details of the vehicle used by the suspect, raising suspicions that the car may have been stolen or that its license plates could have been taken from another vehicle.

A case was registered at Ali Sabah Al-Salem Police Station under charges of theft and impersonating a police officer, and the file has been referred to the Criminal Investigation Department to track down the suspect.

Investigators are coordinating with the General Traffic Department to identify the vehicle and trace the person behind the alleged crime through official databases.

Authorities warned residents and citizens to remain cautious when approached by individuals claiming to be security personnel. Officials stressed that legitimate Criminal Investigation Department officers are required to show their official identification and allow individuals enough time to verify their credentials.
