KUWAIT CITY, Sept 28: Hawalli detectives have arrested an Asian expatriate for illegally practicing medicine without a license or any formal medical qualifications. Authorities discovered that the suspect had transformed his rented room in an old residential building in Hawalli into a makeshift clinic, where he received and treated patients, mostly expatriates from his own nationality.
During the raid, officers found a significant quantity of medicines stored inside the room. These included both drugs belonging to the Ministry of Health, as well as others smuggled into the country from abroad. Among the seized items were abortion pills, painkillers, sedatives, and a variety of medicines used to treat common and chronic illnesses.
According to a security source, detectives were tipped off after observing frequent visits by expatriates to the suspect’s room. Following discreet surveillance and investigations, it was confirmed that the tenant was operating an unlicensed clinic and treating patients in exchange for money. Investigators also discovered that he was providing illegal abortion services to women of his nationality.
Based on the findings, a warrant was obtained, and the premises were raided. The suspect was arrested, and all medical supplies were confiscated. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to selling abortion pills at KD 35 each.
The case, along with the seized items and the suspect’s confessions, has been referred to the Public Prosecution for further legal action.
