KUWAIT CITY, Oct 1: Yesterday, the Qatar Public Works Authority made a significant announcement, confirming that the primary edifice of the Doha Horticultural Expo 2023 has secured a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for boasting the largest green roof globally, spanning an impressive area of approximately 4,031 square meters, reports Al-Rai daily.

According to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), the authority proudly stated that this remarkable achievement marks the sixth Guinness World Record they have accomplished in recent years. Prior feats include establishing the largest electric bus depot in Lusail and constructing the lengthiest outdoor air-conditioned track in an open park at Umm Al Seneem Park.

Additional feats recorded in the encyclopedia encompass providing the longest continuous bicycle path (Olympic track) and the lengthiest stretch of continuously paved asphalt on Al Khor Road. Also noted is the participation of the largest number of nationalities in simultaneous tree planting.

The authority emphasized that these monumental projects play a pivotal role in preparing Qatar for major global events, citing their contributions to hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the Expo 2023 Doha Horticultural Exhibition, and the upcoming Formula 1 races set to take place in Doha next month.

The Public Works Authority proudly announced the completion of the main building and service structures for the exhibition, alongside the meticulous preparation of its outdoor and indoor gardens, in anticipation of welcoming participants to one of the Middle East’s premier gardening exhibitions. The building’s design was carefully crafted to showcase the highest gardening standards within a hot climate, epitomizing Qatar’s dedication to greenery in a desert landscape.

The project was conceptualized to offer visitors an interactive experience melding nature, cultural urban construction, and a touch of Qatari heritage, with the main building’s roof adorned with a variety of plants such as Panastum, Dahlia, and Green Grass.

Notably, the Expo 2023 Doha Horticultural Exhibition is set to commence on October 2nd under the banner of “Green Desert, Better Environment,” and will run its activities until March 28th of the subsequent year.
