TEHRAN, July 15: Explosions were reported Wednesday in the southern Iranian city of Ahvaz and the southeastern port city of Chabahar, according to Iran's semi-official Mehr news agency, amid an ongoing escalation in regional tensions.

Mehr reported that explosions were heard in Ahvaz, although the exact source and location of the blasts were not immediately known. In a separate report, the agency said three explosions were also heard in Chabahar, a strategic port city on Iran's southeastern coast.

No immediate information was available on casualties, damage, or the cause of the explosions, and Iranian authorities had not issued an official statement at the time of reporting.

The reports came as the United States continued a second wave of military strikes against Iranian military capabilities, targeting assets allegedly used to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. However, there was no immediate confirmation linking the reported explosions in Ahvaz and Chabahar to the ongoing U.S. operations.
