TEHRAN, Nov 7: Explosion-like sounds were reported in several locations along Iran's Persian Gulf coast on Saturday evening, including Qeshm Island, Sirik, Jask and Bandar Abbas, amid heightened tensions surrounding the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian state television reported hearing explosions in several coastal areas, while the state news agency IRNA reported two explosions in the eastern part of Qeshm Island.
Residents also reported hearing explosions in Jask, a coastal city in southeastern Iran. Reuters confirmed that Iranian media had reported incidents on Qeshm Island and in Jask, although the cause remained unclear.
A reporter for Iranian state television suggested that the sounds could be connected to military operations aimed at defending the Strait of Hormuz. However, no official confirmation was immediately available to establish whether the incidents were linked to military activity.
The reports come amid continuing military and diplomatic tensions involving Iran and the United States, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining a major strategic flashpoint.
There was no immediate official explanation of the reported explosions, and details regarding possible damage or casualties were not available.
The circumstances surrounding the incidents remain unclear.
