TEHRAN, Aug. 6: Two explosions heard in southern Iran on Thursday night were linked to an operation targeting what were described as “hostile targets” near the entrance of the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported.

Tasnim, citing informed sources, said the blasts were heard on Qeshm Island at around 9:40 pm local time and were the result of an operation carried out against hostile objects near the strategic waterway.

The sources said details and results of the operation by Iranian naval forces would be announced in the coming hours.

Meanwhile, Mehr News Agency quoted Hormozgan Deputy Governor for Security Affairs as saying that no impacts or damage had been reported in Qeshm or the nearby port city of Bandar Abbas.

The official added that relevant authorities were investigating the source of the explosions. No further details were immediately available.
