TEHRAN, Nov 8: Several explosions were heard in parts of Iran's southern port city of Bandar Abbas and nearby Qeshm Island on Sunday evening, according to the semi-official Fars news agency.
Citing local sources, Fars reported that the sounds may have been caused by warning shots fired at vessels suspected of violating navigation regulations in the Strait of Hormuz.
However, Iranian authorities had not issued an official statement explaining the cause of the explosions at the time of the report.
Bandar Abbas is a major Iranian port city, while Qeshm Island lies nearby at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most strategically important shipping corridors.
The waterway is a critical route for international energy supplies, particularly oil exports from Gulf countries.
The circumstances surrounding the reported explosions remained unclear, and there was no immediate official confirmation of damage or casualties.
