ADEN, Oct 25: A powerful explosion rocked Yemen’s southern governorate of Aden on Sunday after a suspected Houthi ballistic missile landed in a remote area near a government military headquarters, according to a local source cited by Anadolu Agency.
The missile reportedly struck a sandy area in Bir Ahmed, behind an iron factory in the Al-Buraiqa district of western Aden, the source said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
No casualties or material damage were reported following the incident, according to the source. There was no immediate official comment from the Yemeni government or its military forces.
The incident comes amid renewed fighting between Yemen’s internationally recognized government and the Houthi movement, which controls the capital, Sanaa, and large parts of northern and western Yemen.
Aden serves as the interim capital of the internationally recognized government, which controls large areas of southern and eastern Yemen.
The reported missile landing adds to security concerns in Aden, where military facilities and other strategic locations have been targeted in recent attacks. However, the circumstances of Sunday's incident and responsibility for the suspected missile strike had not been officially confirmed at the time of reporting.
