Explosion Halts Oil Loading at Oman Terminal Amid Suspected Drone Attack

MUSCAT, Jun 5: Oman's key oil export terminal at Mina al Fahal has suspended crude oil loading operations following an explosion near its offshore loading berths, according to a Reuters report citing sources familiar with the matter.

The explosion reportedly occurred between the terminal's Single Buoy Mooring (SBM) 1 and SBM 2 berths and is believed to have been caused by a drone attack. Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the blast, and the exact timing of the incident remains unclear.

Shipping data showed several supertankers anchored off the port on Friday, raising concerns over potential disruptions to oil exports from the strategically important facility.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf region. Earlier this week, Iranian state media claimed Tehran had targeted a US military vessel carrying what it described as a "control and command center" in the Gulf of Oman. However, US Central Command rejected the claim.

No casualties or damage assessments have been officially released, and Omani authorities have yet to issue a detailed statement on the explosion.
