Expert urges dogs isolation amid deadly ‘mysterious illness’

NEW YORK, Nov 16, (Agencies): Dog owners across the US are being cautioned about a mysterious and potentially fatal illness that is rapidly spreading. Kevin Snekvik, the Executive Director of the Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Lab, revealed that researchers are actively working to identify the root cause of this alarming disease.

The initial reports emerged from Oregon, where over 100 cases have been documented. Snekvik emphasized the highly contagious nature of the illness, stressing the urgency for dog owners to stay vigilant and attentive to any signs of sickness in their pets.

According to Snekvik, affected dogs typically exhibit symptoms such as fever, lethargy, and a notable change in behavior. He advised dog owners to be particularly concerned if their pets develop a persistent, wet cough resembling kennel cough.

In the event of such symptoms, Snekvik recommended promptly seeking veterinary care and ensuring that samples are taken for testing at a state lab. The predominant manifestation of the illness appears to be respiratory, closely resembling kennel cough.

As a precautionary measure, Snekvik suggested avoiding dog parks and limiting interactions with unfamiliar dogs. Despite the challenges posed by such restrictions, dog owners like Kelsey Moburg expressed concern for their pets’ well-being but acknowledged the necessity of taking precautions.

With the holiday season approaching, Snekvik also advised against boarding pets if alternative arrangements can be made. Owners are encouraged to prioritize the health and safety of their furry companions during this uncertain period.
