KUWAIT CITY, Dec 23: Expatriate Psychological and Social Researchers at the Ministry of Education have been protesting against exclusion of their names from the housing allowance approved for their counterparts in the teaching field years ago and the recent salary increment for their Kuwaiti and GCC colleagues, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The daily quoting a source disclosed that the researchers are indignant that female teachers are now waiting for raise in their housing allowance from KD 60 to KD 150, just like their male counterparts, based on the Constitutional Court ruling that ordered the increment to ensure equal treatment.

He said the ministry is only waiting for a decision from Civil Service Commission (CSC) concerning the payment of new housing allowance for female teachers. He explained the female teachers will continue to receive housing allowance of KD 60 until further notice, because the ministry can only execute decisions of the commission.

He explained the court order was against the commission, thus it’s waiting for official notification before executing the verdict. Meanwhile, member of the “Waiting for House” (Nater Bayt) campaign Meshal Al-Azemi said millions of dinars are wasted monthly through bureaucratic procedures in government agencies related to housing affairs. He affirmed that KD 150 monthly housing allowance for each Kuwaiti family is a major aspect of the wastage, considering the number of families has reached 170000. He revealed that the government spends KD 9 million monthly translating to KD 114 million per annum on some 63,401 Kuwaiti families currently on the waiting list for housing in the four ongoing projects.
