Expatriate Bangladeshis crowned champions in the Kuwait Summer League Cricket Tournament

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 1: Bangladesh Friends Sporting Club, a team of expatriate Bangladeshis, won the title of the Kuwait Summer League Cricket Tournament 2025, organized by the Bangladesh Cricket Association in Kuwait. The tournament concluded after a competitive three-month run, with the final held on Friday, January 30, at Al Rai Cricket Ground.

The final was conducted under the chairmanship of Md. Suhrawardy, Acting President of the Bangladesh Cricket Association in Kuwait, moderated by Ismail Sobhan and Atiurzzaman. Tournament Advisor, Md. Main Uddin attended as the chief guest. Special guests included Operation Chairman Mir Mosharraf Hossain, President of the Bangladesh Press Club and Advisor to the organization, journalist Moin Uddin Sarkar Sumon, Tournament Advisor Akhter Uzzaman Mohammad Shams, Shafiqul Islam, Golden Salim Khan, Vice Presidents Kashedul Hossain and Abul Hashem, General Secretary Moazzam Hossain, Organizing Secretary Anwar Kalam, along with many cricket-loving expatriates.

A total of 10 clubs representing Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and India participated in the tournament. The teams included Gujarat Cricket Club, J.K. Warriors, Alfa Cricket Club, Gulf Caval, Jleeb Probashi Club, Shaha G11 Cricket Club, Bengal Avengers, Comilla Victorians, Bangladesh Friends Sporting Club, and Jleeb Knight Riders. Foreign players praised the event, noting the excellent organization by the Bangladeshi expatriate community.

After winning the toss, Jleeb Knight Riders elected to bat first and posted 194 runs for 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, Bangladesh Friends Sporting Club faced early pressure but staged a strong comeback in the latter stages, led by an outstanding performance from Sohag Jasim. He scored a brilliant 80 runs off just 36 balls and was named Man of the Match for his match-winning innings.

Bangladesh Friends Sporting Club chased down the target successfully, scoring 198 runs in 18.1 overs to win the final by three wickets.

The organizers expressed optimism that, with continued support from the expatriate community, even bigger and better tournaments could be organized in the future. Following the match, the guests presented the championship trophy to the winners.

Addressing the gathering, the chief guest, Md. Main Uddin said the event demonstrated how Bangladeshis abroad continue to uphold the country’s image through sports. He praised the initiative for promoting friendship, harmony, and unity, an effort that was also widely appreciated by expatriate players from other participating nations.
